HIV and AIDS Care -
The Holistic Way

We are proud to be the premier private practice for HIV positive patients in Sonoma County. We provide state of the art HIV Prevention and HIV Care. In this era of HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy), the art of HIV Care is becoming increasingly complex. We integrate HIV pharmacotherapeutics into our holistic model to treat the patient, not just the virus.

Dr. Erskine, at the Family Wellness Medical Center, provides comprehensive healthcare for people living with HIV. Individual treatment plans are designed to enhance wellness.

A thoughtful selection of treatment therapies are provided including:

Gender Sensitive Care

What do we mean by Gender Sensitive Care?

Medicine continues to evolve as our knowledge of health and the associated sciences of physiology, biology, and chemistry grows. But this evolution of medical advancement develops within the context of human culture. This culture is rapidly diversifying as it becomes increasingly global. This cultural impetus encourages each person to be a complete human being.

This process has generated an incredibly rich society if one appreciates diversity. One area where this diversity is demonstrable is in the spectrum of sexual identity. Now, one cannot read the newspaper or turn on the television without seeing stories reflecting our attempts as a culture to accept each individual's sexuality. At the touch of a mouse we can connect with people from all walks of life and from all over this globe. An impetus is evident which encourages each person to seek individualization.

As we enter the 21st century, medical care needs to evolve and to keep in step with these changes. While physicians in the process of providing care have always had to address the sexuality of their patients, physicians, as a rule, have reflected the values of the society they have practiced in. Our society is evolving in its sophistication of the human experience.

In our practice we try to create an environment where people can obtain quality health care and not fear that they will be ridiculed or experience discriminatory behavior. Our increased sensitivity to these issues and related aspects is what we mean by 'gender sensitive' care. Basically, whatever your sexual orientation is, you can comfortably obtain medical care at the Family Wellness Medical Center whether you identify yourself as straight, gay, lesbian, transsexual, or uncertain.

Our goal is to provide quality healthcare, not to be judgemental of people's lifestyles. If you have further questions, please feel free to discuss them with our healthcare providers.

Food For Thought
Face To Face

"Yesterday was the 2nd anniversary of my heading into septic shock. I realized that it's indeed been 2 brief years and also realized how blessed and lucky I am (at almost 67) to still be alive and well. You've played a major role in both those blessings. I wondered, too, if I ever made an attempt at letting you know how deeply I appreciate your caring, your talents, and your being my doctor. I hope you have some idea how incredibly comforting it is for me to have you as a balancing factor as I walk this tightrope of health. So please consider this a simple "Thank You"...it's both deeply heartfelt and incredibly understated."
